MathDOC X is the Advanced Level Combined Mathematics programme by Rajika Wimalarathne. Concept-first theory, mark-scheme discipline, and a revision arc built around one belief — a student who understands the proof never forgets the formula.

Chapter 01 · The Sir

One teacher.
One promise:
clarity.

MathDOC X began in 2010 as a Saturday theory class of eleven students in Colombo. Fifteen years later it is an island-wide programme — physical classes, a live online cohort, an LMS of recorded units, and a past-paper archive discussed line by line — still taught by the same person who wrote the first tute.

A formula memorised is a formula forgotten. A proof understood is yours forever. — Rajika Wimalarathne, founder

We keep classes deliberately small on the board-side, mark every monthly paper personally, and run the same continuity for each batch: the same teacher, the same method, from the first tute to the final exam.

Meet the Sir
The method

Five rules we
refuse to bend.

Not aspirations — constraints. Written down in 2015 after four batches, and not relaxed since. Every class, tute and mock is built inside them.

01 / Foundation

Concept first, always.

Every formula on the sheet is derived on the board before it is ever used. Students who know where a result comes from stop fearing the questions that rearrange it.

02 / Discipline

The mark scheme is the syllabus.

Method marks, not final answers. We train the way examiners read.

03 / Cadence

Monthly mocks, marked personally.

Twelve full papers a year, under real timing, with written feedback.

04 / Revision

The 14-week arc.

A pre-exam intensive that walks the entire syllabus twice — once by unit, once by past-paper pattern.

05 / Access

Every lecture, recorded and indexed.

The MathDOC X LMS holds every unit by topic, with synced tutes and solutions. Island-wide students attend live and revise from the same archive — nothing is lost between Colombo and anywhere else.

How it works

From enrollment
to exam day.

Six steps, one cohort, zero surprises. Most students join in December–January; late entry is possible with a catch-up pack.

Step 01

Enroll

Register online or at the Colombo class. Batch placement within 48 hours.

Step 02

Diagnostic

A short O/L-level paper tells us exactly where your foundations need filling.

Step 03

Theory units

Weekly board sessions, printed tutes, and derived-not-memorised formulas.

Step 04

Practice cycle

Tute drills marked weekly. Mistakes become the next week's warm-up.

Step 05

Mock exams

Twelve full papers a year under exam timing, with personal written feedback.

Step 06

The arc

The 14-week final revision intensive. Two full passes of the syllabus.

Notes from the board

Short notes we
wanted written down.

Method notes, exam strategy, and the occasional opinion about how A/L maths is taught. Published between lectures.

Derivation on the board
why > what
Method·04 Feb 2026

We re-derive every formula. Every time.

It costs ten minutes per lecture and saves the entire retention curve. A working note on derivation-first teaching.

The mark scheme is the real syllabus.
